On Left: BABE STANSBURY illustrates a "French Curl" or "Curl behind neck" one of the many variety of curls which help to build shapely arms. Babe operates his own gymnasium of 103rd and Vermont In Los Angeles, and welcomes new members.
On your right: BUD COUNTS demonstates a "Concentration Curl". This is Bud's favorite exercise, and it has provided him with 19 inch arms. For those who like maximum results from a minimum amount of effort the concentration curl will prove a most gratifying exercise, and it is quite unlikely that anyone who has not done the exercise before would fail to gain at least one or two inches of beautiful arm muscle within a month of doing this action. As the name implies, all of the effort of the body is concentrated on the one muscle. Perhaps whoever named the exercise also meant that one should mentally concentrate as he is exercising, as this is certainly a big help in getting complete results.
On your left: JACK MUMA demonstrates "bent-over rowing" with barbell. Athlete stays bent over, pulls barbell up and down, or in another variation describes a clockwise circle with the barbells. This exercise builds up lats, shoulders and pecs.
On your right: SANFORD ALCORN holds the barbell in front of him with his hands close together and is about to perfom a strict two-arm curl. He will bring the barbell to his chest, making certain he does not bend his back and that he does not dig his elbows into his stomach. However, if he wishes to go up to an extra heavy poundage he may "cheat" letting his back help him to lift the poundage and then as he is gradually able to correctly handle the greater weight, he will force his biceps alone to do the work. This photo was taken at Johnny's gym in San Jose Calif. Note on page 5 of this issue, the completion of the two-arm strict curl by Gory Clemons (a friend of Sanford's).
